Publishing the right kind of book can be the door to getting as many awesome clients/patients/students as you desire. However, it doesn’t happen in the way most people think…



Where is the most valuable real estate you can get for your business located?

In your audience’s mind. Imagine occupying a certain category in your audience’s mind (aka. Becoming the “go-to” expert).


How do I get that valuable real estate?

The real estate we are talking about is what I call “Leading Authority Positioning” and it’s essential to getting as much business as you can handle.

This is how it works…

When a human being struggling with a big, painful, urgent problem meets another person, they immediately decide whether this “new” person deserves a plot of land in their mind.

If the “new” person is almost instantly recognized as a valuable, relevant, credible resource to solve that big problem, they’ll get a nice piece of mental real estate. If not, they land the category of “to be ignored”.

The book-client connection lies here: your book needs to position you as a relevant, valuable, credible resource to take me closer to the outcome I desire.


The Clients Attraction Shift

The most powerful shift if you want to attract great clients (who value working with you and pay you what you are worth) is:

“It’s not about the book, it’s about the client’s problem”.

When you publish a book from this place of adding value, you become “client attractive”.


What exactly is value?

You have probably heard (a lot) the phrase “add value”. Let’s have a look at what value is since your book needs to be a valuable, relevant resource if you want to attract great clients.

Simple yet profound. For your book to position you and your good work as a valuable, relevant resource, it needs to take the reader closer to what they want.


3 Essentials In A Client-Attraction Book

a) The Topic – If a person is obsessed about a painful, big, urgent problem they haven’t been able to solve on their own, the topic of your book should be in syntony with that.

I was talking to an executive coach who was thinking of writing a book about “peak performance”. (Peak performance, empowerment and happiness get a lot of lip service from us human beings. As humans, we want to be empowered, happy and perform at our best… However, we don’t make it a mental real estate priority. What is occupying our mental real estate is that big, urgent, painful problem, remember?).

So what I suggested to my executive coach was to start thinking of those big, urgent, painful problems that peak performance can solve.


b) The Title – The title should call the right person out as soon as they hear it (and it’s one of the secrets of your book starting to get you clients before you even publish it).


c) The Cover – It’s not a secret we judge a book by its cover. It’s natural. Visuals are processed 60,000 times faster by the human brain than any other form of input. What is less obvious – but not less natural – is that the author of the book is judged by the book cover.
